EPSCoR - Regents


The Board of Regents co-sponsors several funding opportunities under EPSCoR (Experimental Programs to Stimulate Competitive Research). Louisiana is currently eligible for EPSCoR designation within NSF, NIH, NASA, DoEnergy, EPA. In addition to the RFP's below, EPSCoR may be a source of matching funds on a federal grant. SURE:  Supervised Undergraduate Research Experiences  Deadline: April 18, 2013

This program provides opportunities for female and underrepresented minority undergraduate students to participate in research with faculty mentors.  Students accepted into the program will receive a stipend of $4,000, while the faculty mentor will receive $1,000 per student for costs associated with the research experience. The RFA is also available on the Board's Sponsored Programs website: http://laregents.org.

OPT-IN: Opportunities for Partnerships in Technology with Industry - First Round Proposals due: December 3, 2013. Last day to ask questions about the rfp: November 21, 2013.

This program is designed for tenured, tenure-track, or full-time research professors in science and engineering (S&E) disciplines seeking funding to partner with industrial entities to: build sustainable relationships between academia and industry; facilitate the commercialization of research; enhance research competitiveness; and contribute to the economic development of Louisiana.

PFUND: Pilot Funding for New Research.  Proposals due September 25, 2013 on LOGAN.

Who? - Tenure and non tenure track faculty
Why? - Enhance research focus, explore new ideas, keep pace with cutting edge techniques
What? - Up to 10,000 per year (support for students, travel, equipment, supplies) NO faculty salary or indirect costs allowed
When? - Start date would be Jan. 1.
How? - Simple five page narrative, references, plus cover page, summary, budget/justification form, biosketch, letters of support ALL submitted electronically

LINKS: Links with Industry, Research Centers, and National Labs (Deadline June 30,2015)
Due 3:30 p.m. 30 days before travel

Who? - Tenure and non tenure track faculty may apply
Why? - Establish partnerships and alliances between La. researchers and collaborators (federal, labs, industry)
What? - Up to $500 per week. (max of $6,000) Additional $1000 in transportation cost will be provided. Minimum of 2 weeks visit up to 12 weeks. Travel may also include graduate student or post-doctoral researcher with faculty. Internal match is expected. Indirect costs not allowed. Money does flow through Tech (unlike the TGEF reimbursement money)
When? - at least 30 days prior to request date for travel
How? - Simple five page narrative, references, plus cover page, summary, budget/justification form, biosketch, letters of support ALL submitted electronically through LOGAN

TGEF: Travel Grants for Emerging Faculty:
$750-$1000 travel funds reimbursed to faculty for major invited presentation/abstract at conference or for travel to meeting with program officer at federal agency. Applications accepted year-round at least 30 days before travel.

Planning Grants:
Board of Regents offers two planning grants:

  1. Preliminary Planning Grant for Major Initiatives
  2. Planning Grants for Major Initiatives (invitation only, see #1 above).

Regional Grantwriting Workshops:

Grant Writing: $5,000 available for support of a grant writing seminar for faculty/staff.

SoS: Speaking of Science
Small stipends provided to University Researchers to travel to K-16 schools for presentations.
