Graduate Fellows for the ACAM, BmE, and Engr Ph.D. Programs

Description :  The College of Engineering and Science (COES) has received $17,500 per year for four years to support five BoRSF Graduate Fellows enrolled in one of the following three Ph.D. programs: Ph.D. in Applied Computational Analysis and Modeling Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Engineering The recruitment of these Fellows significantly enhances the programmatic quality and prestige of the COES, as well as our research centers, and provides impetus to each of the Ph.D. programs through high-quality, student-created research that stimulates both students and professors to higher levels of achievement and service. These Fellows contribute to the improvement of education in Louisiana at all levels, K-12 through graduate school. The proposed project meets the state’s objectives in several ways. Some of the benefits to the State of Louisiana are enumerated below: 1. The Fellowships strengthen the infrastructure of the College by positioning superior graduate students in research projects that will both benefit the individual students and enhance the College’s ability to secure additional funding. The Fellowships lend support to significant ongoing projects and help to develop the economy of Northern Louisiana through technology transfer. 2. The Fellowships position superior students in doctoral programs that fulfill needs expressed by business, national committees, and industries throughout the State of Louisiana. 3. The Fellowships enhance the competitive recruitment of additional graduate students and faculty. 4. The Fellowships enhance the College’s ability to recruit traditionally underrepresented students to the campus and graduate school; thereby augmenting the state’s minority workforce of highly-qualified scientists and engineers.
