Recruitment of Superior Graduate Students for the Ph.D. Program in Engineering

Description :  The College of Engineering and Science (COES) has acquired funding to support seven BoRSF Graduate Fellows who will be enrolled in this new Ph.D. program in engineering. The level of support is $17,500 per year for four years. The University will waive tuition and fees for all Graduate Fellows. Each of these superior Graduate Fellows are associated with Louisiana Tech’s Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM) or Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) and directly support ongoing research efforts led by senior research personnel at these internationally-recognized centers. The recruitment of these Fellows significantly enhances the programmatic quality and prestige of the COES, as well as the IfM and the TTC, and provides impetus to the new Ph.D. program through high-quality, student-created research that stimulates both students and professors to higher levels of achievement and service. These Fellows contribute to the enhancement of education in Louisiana at all levels, K-12 through graduate school. The project meets the state’s objectives in several ways: 1. The Fellowships strengthen the infrastructure of the College by positioning superior graduate students in research projects that will both benefit the individual students and enhance the College’s ability to secure additional funding to support significant ongoing projects. 2. The Fellowships position superior students in a unique doctoral program that fulfills needs expressed by business, national committees, and industry throughout the state of Louisiana. 3. The Fellowships enhance the College’s ability to recruit traditionally underrepresented students to the campus and graduate school.
