EAGER: Biomanufacturing: "Multi-scale high-aspect Ratio Structures (HARS) for Constructing Dynamic 2D and 3D Cellular Bioreactors

Description :  

Degradable and non-degradable high-aspect ratio structures (HARS), which scale from the nano (in diameter) through the micro (in length), will be combined with cells to form two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) bioreactors. Currently, bioreactor systems for cells emphasize cell growth. The novel goal of this project is to create active cellular bioreactors that are remodeled with apoptosis-promoting factors and phagocytic cells (e.g., microglia) as in normal development. If successful, these bioreactors will provide transformative drug discovery and testing platforms.
