GRIN Lens Implant for Preclinical in Vivo Documentation of TBI WM Damage and Drug Effects

Description :  This project will provide missing information about the progressive damage that occurs after traumatic brain injury by implanting a tiny glass lens with a needle-thin diameter into the brain of transgenic mice that produce a fluorescent protein in certain brain cells. Using a microscope to look into the lens at the illuminated fluorescent cells, we will record the effect of a drug that may prevent the loss of brain cells over time, and reduce the number of cells associated with axonal degredation.
