GRIN Lens Implant for Preclinical in Vivo Documentation of TBI WM Damage and Drug Effects
This project will provide missing information about the progressive damage that occurs after traumatic brain injury by implanting a tiny glass lens with a needle-thin diameter into the brain of transgenic mice that produce a fluorescent protein in certain brain cells. Using a microscope to look into the lens at the illuminated fluorescent cells, we will record the effect of a drug that may prevent the loss of brain cells over time, and reduce the number of cells associated with axonal degredation.
