WISE Together: We Inspire Smart Eating Nutrition Curriculum Initiative
The objective of the investigators of this project is to increase nutritious intake for children and contribute to obesity prevention. Through the implementation of the WISE (together, We Inspire Smart Eating) Program, which is currently implemented in Head Start locations across Arkansas, the investigator’s purpose is to deliver similar success for children in Lincoln Parish. The WISE Program is aligned with the Lincoln Health Foundation 2014 Healthier Living focus area of Childhood Obesity. Specifically, WISE may: increase educator nutrition knowledge, increase parental nutrition knowledge, and encourage healthy food alternatives in school systems through nutritional education programs. The investigator aims to implement WISE in two phases at the Lincoln Head Start Child Development Program in Ruston, LA, which could impact up to 240 children. Phase I will involve the establishment of early childcare food practices in Lincoln Parish, while Phase II will involve the implementation and evaluation of the pre-school nutrition program (WISE) impacting educators, children, and their parents.
