System for Classification of 3D Dynamic Hand Gestures
The objective of the investigators of this research is to develop a smart glove-based system for 3D dynamic hand gesture recognition. In collaboration with NASA GSFC, the investigators aim to develop: an accurate, efficient classifier with a diverse vocabulary of dynamic gestures, a minimally obtrusive glove with unlabeled markers, a gesture recognition layer interface, and a laboratory recognition and control testbed. Dynamic recognition algorithms may be developed using Hidden Markov Models. In addition, a new distance metric may be created for effective data classification. These developments may facilitate user-control of robotics, video games, computing, security biometrics, and aerial and space vehicles, which applies to the NASA-GSFC mission.
