Field and Laboratory Investigation of Fog Seal and its Performance Measures

Description :

In response to the Louisiana-Vision 2020 initiative for highway pavement improvements, the investigators of this research, in collaboration with Caddo Parish and the P.R. Parker Company, Inc., seek to investigate the utilization of fog seal as a cost effective method of asphalt preservation. Fog seals will be evaluated in field and laboratory applications to examine friction changes, chip loss, surface sealing, pavement structural capacity, reduction in oxidative aging and extension of pavement life. In conjunction with construction activities, a distress survey will be conducted prior to fog sealing and at six month intervals. With applications to Louisiana pavement maintenance, the use of fog seal could provide significant economic relief while maintaining highway safety.
