A CHOICES Generation: “Responsibility for Today, Tonight, and Tomorrow”
Description : CHOICES Generation is an alcohol program that confronts student perceptions of alcohol use and high-risk behavior associated with drinking, including drinking and driving. Data collected during the Spring Quarter 2003 administration of the National Probability Sample of the CORE Alcohol, Drug, and Violence Survey revealed that 40.1% of Louisiana Tech University students surveyed admitted to driving while under the influence. The overall objective of the CHOICES Generation program is to decrease the percentage of students engaging in the high-risk behavior of drinking and driving by confronting the underlying student acceptance of such behavior. Over a three year period, this project seeks a 10% decrease from initial baseline measures. CHOICES Generation uses a social-norms media campaign, positive peer influence, and information packets to accomplish its goals. The catch phrases “We are a CHOICES Generation” and “Responsible CHOICES for Today, Tonight, and Tomorrow” are used in this program to encourage a culture of change and ownership.
