Medical Decision Support for Diabetic Retinopathy Using Data Mining
Description : This project will focus on a bottleneck in healthcare delivery for patients suffering from Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), an ocular complication of diabetes and a leading cause of blindness. The project is in support of the scientific mission of Bioinformatics core of LBRN and the scientific and economic development of the State of Louisiana. This project will develop novel association-rule based data mining algorithms that will help reduce this bottleneck in DR healthcare. This fundamental research will lead to development of novel research outcomes in this area that is at the heart of the current technological revolution, which is data-rich but information-poor. This research, besides yielding important research results, will enhance and develop collaborative research and mentoring relationships with established researchers from LSU Eye Center, New Orleans. The project will involve both graduate and undergraduate students in this research discipline and help them obtain the knowledge and experience they need for continued future professional development in this area.
