Hurricane Katrina Rapid Deployment

Description :

This project focuses on collecting data from St. Bernard Parish, an area of Louisiana destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and augmenting existing efforts to collect data from Cameron Parish and the City of Biloxi, Mississippi.  The data collected will assist in developing better design and construction practices to mitigate the damage of such storms, as well as helping utility managers to be better prepared to restore services as quickly as possible after a hurricane or flooding event.  This project will provide one undergraduate engineering student with the opportunity to develop data collection skills and to use advanced software (ArcView 9.0) to conduct spatial analysis.  The student will also gain an understanding of the interconnections among engineered, natural and social systems.
