Methodology to Evaluate Food Intake and Policy Effects of Team Nutrition Program in Schools
Description : The purpose of this study is to develop a computer-based methodology for gathering survey and point-of-purchase/consumption data and use the method to assess the level of Team Nutrition implementation in randomly selected schools in Louisiana, and the impact of the implementation on the dietary behavior and nutrition knowledge of 7th grade students. A total of 1,280 7th grade students were randomly selected from the participating schools to participate in the dietary intake assessment using the handheld computers. To test the hypothesis that handheld computers are more efficient in data collection, paper and pen based surveys will be administered to three control groups of 40 students each for a total of 120 students. Expected findings will contribute to increased measurement effectiveness of nutrition educational programs aimed toward reducing obesity, improving diet quality, and increasing health outcomes among school children.
