Physics

Description:  The Physics program offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Faculty research interests include particle physics, magnetic materials, nano-scale selfassembly, and biophysics. The Physics office is located in Carson-Taylor Hall, on the main campus of Louisiana Tech. Faculty offices are in the Engineering Annex, Carson-Taylor Hall, BogardHall, and the Institute for Micromanufacturing. The program provides students with an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in the Center for Applied Physics Studies (CAPS) and in the Institute for Micromanufacturing. The research emphasis within CAPS is on particle physics. There are several ongoing research projects in CAPS: D0, LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), MARGIE (Minute-of-Arc Gamma Ray Imaging Experiment) and G0. Each of these is a collaborative effort involving top research laboratories at the national and international levels. The research emphasis in the Institute for Micromanufacturing is on biophysics and nanobiotechnology.
