Planning Process

  • Obtain a complete copy of RFP/RFA, grant guidelines, or web link and email to Sponsored Programs (bfree@latech.edu) and your Research Director as soon as you begin the grant writing process.

  • Talk to an agency representative to make sure that your project fits within the scope of their funding. Clarify questions, goals, and funding priorities of the agency.

  • Discuss your intent to submit a proposal with your department head, colleagues, and dean for ideas and insight on the specific proposal process.

  • If a formal letter of intent, notice of intent, or white paper abstract is required by agency prior to submitting a full proposal, upload to the online routing system for internal approvals before LOI is submitted.

  • In-house Excel budget templates are available from the OSP website (see A. Proposal Preparation: research.latech.edu/resources/forms_downloads) which will help you begin your budgeting process. As soon as you have a draft of the budget and a scope of work introduction completed, send to Beth Free in Sponsored Projects (bfree@latech.edu) and your Research Director for review prior to uploading to the online routing system (https://forms.latech.edu - log in with your webmail or Moodle username and password).

  • If your proposal is being submitted via NSF Fastlane, look at the Fastlane Proposal Submission process below or on their website. Electronic submission arrangements with other agencies may also need to be reviewed carefully and OSP notified accordingly.

  • If your proposal contains intellectual property potential (see the complete Intellectual Property Policy) contact Rich Kordal at (318) 257-2970 or to discuss proposal enhancement and specific requirements. Additional information is available at the Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization website.
